A lot of people are extremely skeptical or even negative about video games. There is an opinion that they negatively affect the psyche, take time and generally spoil people. But it cannot be denied that modern games are quite capable of indulging, for example, with feature films in terms of their entertainment and plot, and the gaming industry as a whole takes up a rather large layer in economics. For example, the volume of the world market of games in 2016 amounted to 95.2 billion dollars! And this is without taking into account the sales of all kinds of gaming devices, without which it’s not something that can’t be played in the cyber sports arena - even for the pleasure of not playing.
In this article we will discuss one of the most important elements of any game assembly - monitors. As you know, a person receives 80-85% of information through vision, and therefore it is especially important to pay attention to the device that will display the picture. Of course, for a regular gamer, a regular monitor will be enough, but to play multiplayer shooters and MOBA you need something “farther”. For more information on how to choose a game monitor, you can read at the end of the article. We turn to the traditional rating, which contains the best representatives.
The best game monitors with a diagonal of 24-25 inches
We start with the "kids" in the world of gaming monitors. For most people, a diagonal of 60 centimeters will seem just gigantic, but to enjoy games this size can be called "minimally acceptable." It will be quite comfortable to play with this, because immersion in what is happening is relatively good, but during normal work there will be no fatigue due to running your eyes from one corner to another.
3 BenQ ZOWIE XL2411P
A country: China
Average price: 17 705 ₽
Rating (2019): 4.4
Opens rating monitor from the company BenQ. Their products are extremely cheap, but it is difficult to call them bad. Yes, the viewing angles of the TN matrix are mediocre, but finding a monitor with a refresh rate of 144 hertz in this price range is almost impossible. And this one is updated quickly, and it responds almost instantly - in just 1 ms.
In addition to viewing angles, you can find fault with the design and build quality. Appearance disappoints with large frames, and the assembly is not very high quality. In general, this monitor can be recommended to those who buy the first gaming device and are not yet sure whether to spend a large amount on a professional device.
Advantages:
- Refresh rate - 144 Hz
- 1 ms response time
- Lowest cost
Disadvantages:
- Poor viewing angles
- Mediocre build quality
- Outdated design
2 ASUS ROG Swift PG258Q
A country: China
Average price: 51 510 ₽
Rating (2019): 4.6
The ASUS ROG family is known for a huge number of gamers. The game monitor from this line is primarily distinguished by its appearance. It is not a shame to demonstrate it not only from the front, but also from the back, because all the exits are hidden under the decorative covers with the original design. Even the leg looks very interesting - it has a built-in mini-projector that projects the symbol of the series or your image onto the table. The adjustments are simply dark: vertical, vertical, tilt and rotate to portrait mode.
From a technical point of view, everything is also great. A TN + film matrix with a diagonal of 24.5 inches and a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels is used. Viewing angles are quite acceptable, there is a margin of brightness (400 cd / m²). Players will love the refresh rate of 240 Hz and the response time of 1 ms. Of course, there is NVIDIA G-Sync.
Advantages:
- Great design
- Fast response - 1 ms
- Refresh rate - 240 Hz
- Have nvidia g-sync
- A large number of adjustments
1 AOC AGON AG251FZ
A country: China
Average price: 25 990 ₽
Rating (2019): 4.7
Monitors from the company AOC are known for their good performance at low cost. AGON for some indicators is on the same level, and for others it is completely superior to the previous mastodon, which costs twice as much. At the same time, the leader flaunts the only IPS matrix in the class with FullHD resolution, which means viewing angles, color rendition and brightness are just perfect. But for gamers, the update rate and response speed will be much more interesting - 240 Hz and 1 ms - which is even more than enough for professional Counter-Strike players. Of the interesting features worth noting technology Flicker Free (prevents screen flicker, and hence fatigue) and Adaptive-Sync. It is also the only monitor that has built-in speakers - albeit of mediocre quality. The design is relatively strict - there are only a couple of interesting bright elements in the shape of V. The monitor can be adjusted vertically, height and angle of inclination.
Advantages:
- Refresh rate 240 Hz
- Response speed - 1 ms
- IPS matrix
- Flicker Free Technology
- The presence of built-in speakers
- A large number of inputs: DVI-D (HDCP), HDMI x2, DisplayPort, VGA (D-Sub), USB x4
The best gaming monitors with a diagonal of 27-28 inches
If 24-inch models are considered ideal for working with documents, then 27-inch monitors are the de facto standard for virtual entertainment. This size is enough for a comfortable game with full immersion. In this case, the device will not clutter up the desktop. In general, the golden mean.
3 MSI Optix MPG27C
A country: China
Average price: 31 056 ₽
Rating (2019): 4.6
The MSI company is familiar to a huge number of gamers thanks to the excellent computer accessories, productive laptops. In the field of game monitors, the company is new, but it can already offer customers excellent devices. The optix MPG27C model immediately attracts with its appearance - the design is somewhat similar to the ASUS ROG line, however, there are more lights here: the futuristic pattern on the back and the front panel under the screen are highlighted. The latter carries not only aesthetic, but also practical functions: thanks to the support of SteelSeries Game Sense, it can be taken, for example, the level of health of the character in the game, the number of cartridges or any other information.
The display itself is good, but not perfect. The 27-inch TFT * VA matrix with FullHD resolution is curved, which provides excellent immersion in what is happening on the screen, but I would like to have a higher pixel density for working with documents or browsing. The response speed is only 1 ms, the refresh rate is 144 Hz: a great combination for most gamers.
Advantages:
- Beautiful and functional design
- High-quality curved matrix
- Anti-reflective coating
- FreeSync support
- Factory color calibration, 100% coverage sRGD
Disadvantages:
- The resolution at such a diagonal is low for non-player use.
2 ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q
A country: China
Average price: 72 999 ₽
Rating (2019): 4.7
Yes, again Asus. Yes, their monitor again did not occupy the leading line only because of the high cost. But how good is the ROG Swift PG279Q. The company has corrected all the shortcomings of its predecessor, and now we have a 27 inch IPS monitor with Quad HD resolution (2560x1440 pixels). The viewing angles are excellent, the colors are juicy, the brightness is high - in general, all the advantages of IPS are obvious. Also worth noting is the highest refresh rate in the classroom - 165 Hz. The only drawback is the relatively low response frequency - 4 ms.
Appearance - the most "gaming" in this category, although not fanciful. You shouldn’t even speak about the adjustments - the monitor moves in all necessary directions.
Advantages:
- IPS matrix
- Highest update rate - 165 Hz
Disadvantages:
- The price is too high
1 DELL S2716DG
A country: USA (produced in China)
Average price: 40 125 ₽
Rating (2019): 4.8
Dell is the clear leader in the monitor market, and the S2716DG is an excellent device for gamers. But at first glance, this is not true, because the appearance of the monitor is extremely restrained and stylish. At the same time, the functional does not suffer - it stands steadily, is regulated in all necessary directions. The only niggle is the glossy back cover, which very quickly collects prints and dust.
But technically everything is just fine. The TN + film 2560x1440 pixel matrix shows a juicy and very bright picture. In this case, no glare due to proprietary anti-reflective coating. The refresh rate is not a record, but 144 Hz is more than enough for most players. The response time of the matrix is only 1 ms. Add to this all the relatively low cost and get a nearly perfect 27 inch gaming monitor.
Advantages:
- Excellent image quality
- Strict design
- Fast response and fast frame rates
- Low cost
Best gaming monitors with an aspect ratio of 21: 9
The attitude to monitors with an aspect ratio of 21: 9 is ambiguous. One compares the work for such with loopholes in tanks, others remain in awe of complete immersion in what is happening on the screen. In the context of the article on gaming monitors, we are more of a second opinion. Of course, this ratio is not suitable for all games, but, for example, it is incredibly pleasant to play racing or RPG. Also, such monitors are perfect for movie lovers, because films occupy the screen completely, without any bands above and below. True, most YouTube videos were shot at 16: 9, so you have to think carefully before you buy.
3 LG 29UM69G
A country: South Korea
Average price: 18 015 rub.
Rating (2019): 4.6
The only representative of the company LG shows very good results. First of all, attention is attracted by a rather strict, but undoubtedly game design - sharp edges, red shades. Although some users complain about the weakness of the legs.
In terms of picture quality, there are no complaints - the 29-inch IPS matrix with a resolution of 2560x1080 pixels yields a very juicy image. But gamers characteristics a little disappointed. The refresh rate is 75 Hz, which is not enough for dynamic games. The blessing though AMD FreeSync is. Enough in the monitor and innovation. For example, you can connect to a PC via USB Type-C.
Advantages:
- Relatively compact size
- IPS matrix
- USB Type-C connection
- 2 speakers of 5W each
- Lowest price in class
2 AOC AGON AG352QCX
A country: China
Average price: 49 090 ₽
Rating (2019): 4.7
AOC is a long-time player in the gaming monitors market, as can be clearly seen on the AGON AG352QCX model with an aspect ratio of 21: 9. Traditionally we start with the design: the device is rather restrained in front, only the red border and the ruler logo stand out; behind the cover is a striking aluminum insert in the form of wings and 4 LED inserts (only 3 colors: red, blue, green). The stand is also aluminum, with a convenient carrying handle and the ability to adjust for height, tilt and rotation (in small ranges). The reviews about the stand are contradictory: some speak of excessive tightness, others complain of precariousness. Apparently, it all depends on the adjustment.
The display is of excellent quality. Curved TFT MVA matrix with a huge diagonal of 35 inches has a resolution - 2560x1080. For games, watching movies and even everyday work, this is enough, but the video card doesn’t overload - a GeForce GTX 1060 card is suitable for comfortable gaming. But the update rate is amazing - 200 Hz! With such a frequency, you can most comfortably play eSports disciplines, like CS: GO.
Advantages:
- Highest update rate in class
- A huge number of connection options: DVI-D, HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA
- Stereo speakers (2x5W)
1 ASUS ROG Swift PG348Q
A country: China
Average price: 99 990 ₽
Rating (2019): 4.8
Finally, the monitor from ASUS won the deserved first place. Outwardly, this is almost a complete copy of the ASUS ROG Swift PG258Q from the first category - the same “leg”, the same design of the back cover - only the display here stretched to 21: 9. IPS matrix with a resolution of 3440x1440 pixels. Add to this a curved display and get just an incredible level of immersion in what is happening on the screen. Also worth noting is the presence of NIVIDIA G-Sync. There are also columns here, but they are more likely to be ticked off than for real listening to music, watching movies or playing games.
Advantages:
- Cool design
- The highest resolution display
- Refresh rate 100 Hz
- Curved display
- USB hub availability
Best 4K UltraHD Gaming Monitors
Literally 10 years ago, the overwhelming majority of monitors had a 4: 3 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1024x768 pixels. Today, the generally accepted minimum is FullHD resolution, which comes on the heels of 4K. Suitable content is becoming more and more, and modern gaming computers at a reasonable price can already display a smooth image in such high quality. This means that it’s time to look out for your new gaming 4K UltraHD monitor!
3 Philips 288P6LJEB
A country: Netherlands
Average price: 27 058 ₽
Rating (2019): 27 058 ₽
2 ASUS MG28UQ
A country: China
Average price: 33 490 ₽
Rating (2019): 4.7
1 Acer Predator XB321HKbmiphz
A country: China
Average price: 73 029 ₽
Rating (2019): 4.7
The leader of the rating is a rather controversial model. Let's take it in order. The gaming design is only half - in a bright, aggressive style, only the stand is made, while the monitor itself is nothing special. The stand allows you to adjust only the height (in the range of 120 mm) and the slope (from -5 to +25 degrees), but the build quality and strength are almost perfect.
The display is 32-inch. This size is perfectly combined with 4K UltraHD resolution. The matrix, unlike previous participants, TFT IPS, which provides excellent viewing angles, high-quality color reproduction (full coverage sRGB), high brightness (350 cd / m2) with a wide range of adjustments. In general, even professional publications engaged in testing monitors, noted the excellent image quality. Gamers will also appreciate the support for Nvidia G-Sync technology. But there is nothing to complain about: the long response (4 ms) and the low refresh rate - 60 Hz are not encouraging. Yes, the vast majority of modern systems will not be able to issue at maximum graphics settings in 4K more than 60 fps, but I would like to have a reserve for the future.
Advantages:
- Best picture quality in class
- G-Sync support
- USB hub with 4 USB 3.0
Disadvantages:
- Low response speed and refresh rate 60 Hz.
How to choose a monitor for games
Choosing a game monitor is actually very simple. One has only to remember a few important points.
- Too large diagonal - not always good. Yet you do not play around the clock, and therefore it is worth taking a monitor of such a diagonal on which it will be convenient and easy to work.
- The higher the resolution, the better. But do not forget that your computer can simply "not take out" 4K resolution.
- pay attention to frame refresh rate. 80-100 Hz will be enough for quiet games, for eSports disciplines (CS: GO, Overwatch, etc.) - at least 144 Hz
- Choose a model with a minimum response time (ideally - 1 ms). This will provide a more comfortable game in dynamic games.
- G-Sync /FreeSync. These are technologies that prevent image “ruptures”. One of them must be present in the monitor.
- The most important! Before buying necessarily personally rate image quality. Nevertheless, not a single item of technical specifications, nor a single review will convey the impression of a personal meeting.
